Igloo Trip thoughts
Each winter, we send our students and interns out into the snow for a few days. Some enjoy it, some don't-- but each one comes away just a little bit different for having had a new experience. They are challenged as they face new problems to solve. They have to work together with people who they may not agree with. They have to face fears, which often drives them into deeper fellowship with their Creator. They have to keep going even when they are uncomfortable and would rather quit. Sounds like good lessons for all of us, right? When was the last time that you purposefully followed the Lord's leading into a new, vulnerable situation, only to see what God would teach you? Our students don't have much choice in the matter, but our hope for them is that, once they experience the depth of the lessons learned in the wilderness, they will be quicker to follow the Lord into other wildernesses in their lives in the future. How about you?
A New Year!
It is a new year – full of opportunities! What will we do with the opportunities Jesus is going to put before us in 2011? As I shared with the ranch family this past Sunday during our worship service, my 2010 calendar was full…full of appointments, meetings, trips, events, joyful times, sad times, ups and downs…and it was full of opportunities (both missed and taken) to love and serve others. I cannot do anything about the opportunities I missed or neglected from 2010….but I can resolve to take full advantage of the opportunities Jesus is sure to place before me in 2011. What about you? Will you join me in looking for opportunities this year to love and serve others in Jesus’ name, to be eager to share our stories of God’s redemption in our lives, and to be full of joy in our journey? It is going to be a great year because Jesus will be there– let’s take advantage of each and every opportunity He puts before us!
