Future plans: Pursuing teaching credential

I have a naturally patient personality. I’m willing to be there for people and explain something differently if they don’t get it the first time. I want people to learn. I feel like going to school to get a teaching credential is the next thing. Coming alongside others is something I naturally do.

“Larissa has taught me how to be strong and courageous no matter what life brings. She’s spoken truth by telling me that I am worth it, that I am good enough, and that I can do anything through Christ...She’s like a sister to me.”

 - Elexis, student

I have 11 brothers and sisters. In a big family, we grow alongside and with each other. That’s similar to the Ranch. We aren’t blood related here, but we have to build trust. We live together; we eat together; we go through struggles together. In the midst of those struggles, it strengthens our bonds. This happens in blood family, too. But when you’re born into it, it’s expected that you go and help each other. In Ranch community, it isn’t necessarily expected, so when people step up to the plate to do it, it strengthens your bonds...In a way sometimes the bonds you form here are stronger than family bonds because you’re doing something because you want to and not because it’s expected of you.

Students and interns enjoyed the company of the Dickson clan at CEM’s Family Camp this past July.

(Note: Larissa finished her 2 year internship in January and is currently serving as CEM’s Interim Food Service Manager.)
